(WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.) - The USTA announced today that the USTA-sponsored Tennis On Campus teams from Arizona State University and the University of Arizona will join forces to serve as the official cheering section, the "Arizona Campus Crew," for this weekend's Fed Cup by BNP Paribas quarterfinal tie between the United States and Argentina at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz. In addition, the USTA announced that it will offer a special $10 ticket to any college student who would like to attend the Fed Cup matches on Saturday and/or Sunday.
The Arizona Campus Crew will be outfitted with drums, noisemakers and pom-poms to help lend a home-court advantage for the U.S. at this weekend's Fed Cup matches with their boisterous cheers and help encourage their fellow spectators with their enthusiasm and patriotism.
"We are thrilled to have the local Tennis On Campus students serve as the ‘Arizona Campus Crew' for this tie," said Mary Joe Fernandez, who is serving as U.S. Fed Cup Captain for the first time. "Not only is it great to have the support of such enthusiastic tennis players and fans, but it is a meaningful way to showcase such an important USTA initiative which keeps recreational players playing tennis throughout their college experience."
Other college students who wish to enjoy the Fed Cup quarterfinal tie can come with their student ID to the box office located in the clubhouse of the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex to purchase a special $10 ticket. These tickets will be available for the matches on both Saturday and Sunday.
The USTA's Tennis On Campus program is designed to provide college students with opportunities for team camaraderie, social networking, and rivaled competition through tennis without the rigors of a varsity program. Perfect for athletes who have chosen not to make the jump from high school to college varsity, Tennis On Campus offers co-ed team-based play, regional and national championship competition, and helps students maintain active and healthy lifestyles through their college years. Currently, the program is offered on over 500 college campuses and services over 30,000 students. For more information on the USTA's Tennis On Campus program, please visit TennisOnCampus.com.
